At Datahub, we collect, maintain and distribute data on nearly four million electricity accounting points across Finland. Through our services, we create value for both consumers and electricity market parties.
Our operations are guided by the Electricity Market Act, which requires us to continuously develop our services to ensure efficient functioning of the retail electricity market. Information exchange services for the electricity market must offer seamless usability, high reliability and uncompromising information security.
We maintain the centralized information exchange services for the retail electricity market
Datahub is a centralized information exchange system for the retail electricity market. It collects and distributes information on Finland’s electricity accounting points, making data available to both consumers and market parties. At Fingrid Datahub Oy, we are responsible for the development and operation of the service in close cooperation with our parent company, Fingrid Oyj.
Datahub stores electricity metering data as well as customer, contract and accounting point information on Finland’s 3.9 million electricity accounting points. All electricity suppliers and distribution system operators (DSOs) rely on Datahub whenever they need to access this information. Consumers can also use Datahub to view information about their own accounting points.
In addition to serving electricity companies and consumers, Datahub provides services to third parties, such as balancing service providers and load control service providers. This helps improve the efficiency of the retail electricity market while supporting new innovations and enabling modern business operations.

We develop electricity market information exchange based on the needs of our customers. Our services can be used by consumers, electricity companies, and third-party service providers alike. Together, we share a common goal: a reliable and continuously evolving electricity market that keeps the lights on in every home, business, and production facility every day of the year.
We provide all our customers with access to Datahub usage statistics and open data on electricity metering points. Open data maintained by Datahub on electricity consumption and small-scale production is available through Fingrid’s Open Data service.
Consumers
The services we offer to consumers – electricity users – are available through OmaDatahub and Datahub Authorization Service.
Through OmaDatahub, consumers can view information on all their electricity accounting points in one place, regardless of where the accounting points are located or which electricity companies they have contracts with. This makes it easier to manage their electricity services, for example when the same person has electricity contracts for both a permanent residence and a holiday home.
Through the Authorization Service, consumers can manage the authorizations they grant to service providers. Service providers may request authorization from consumers for purposes such as comparing electricity contracts or monitoring and optimizing electricity consumption.
Electricity companies
We facilitate collaboration between Finland’s approximately 80 electricity suppliers and 80 DSOs. Information exchange related to electricity metering points between electricity companies takes place through Datahub’s interfaces. Every day, we receive and forward hundreds of thousands of messages between electricity market parties.
For example, when a consumer changes their electricity contract, switches electricity supplier, or reports a change of address, the party receiving the original notification records the changes in Datahub. Datahub then forwards the updated information to the relevant parties that need it. Similarly, DSOs submit metering data from accounting points to Datahub, which then forwards the data to the electricity supplier responsible for each accounting point. This enables suppliers to invoice their customers based on actual electricity consumption.
Service providers
The electricity market is undergoing a major transformation. Technological advances and the growing momentum of the green transition are driving a rapid influx of new services and innovations into the market. As a result, saving energy is becoming easier than ever, and households have new opportunities to participate in small-scale energy production.
Many of these new electricity market services would not be possible without Datahub. Through centralized information exchange, consumers can authorize third-party service providers to manage electricity matters on their behalf. Today, dozens of service providers are already active in the Finnish retail electricity market.

The data we store
Datahub stores information required for the operation of Finland’s retail electricity market and for information exchange between DSOs, electricity suppliers, and third-party service providers. Under the Electricity Market Act, Datahub maintains detailed information on electricity metering points and customers, including personal data of electricity users. For this reason, information security is at the core of our operations, and we ensure that data is disclosed only to parties authorized to process it.
In accordance with the Electricity Market Act, we maintain metering point data for six years after the contract and the associated metering at the accounting point have ended. After this period, the data is automatically deleted.
Who can access the data?
In addition to consumers themselves, access to accounting point information is limited to electricity companies that have a valid contract with the consumer and to third parties that have been authorized by the consumer to process the data.
We also provide metering point and electricity consumption data to Finland's national statistical institute Statistics Finland, eSett, which is responsible for Nordic imbalance settlement, and the Energy Authority, which supervises the operation of the electricity market. The datasets provided to Statistics Finland are available solely for research purposes and under restricted access.
In addition, we make aggregated data on electricity consumption and small-scale production publicly available through Fingrid’s Open Data service. The data does not include information on individual accounting points or distribution networks. The service is free of charge and open to businesses, researchers, students, and private individuals alike.
Our story
In early 2019, the Electricity Market Act assigned Fingrid Oyj, Finland’s transmission system operator, the responsibility for providing centralized information exchange services for the retail electricity market. These services include the information exchange required for electricity market processes and the imbalance settlement of distribution networks. To carry out this task, Fingrid established its wholly owned subsidiary, Fingrid Datahub Oy.
Following several years of planning and development, Datahub was launched on 21 February 2022. At that point, all information exchange in Finland’s retail electricity market was transferred from the individual systems of electricity companies to the centralized model.
Since the go-live of Datahub, we have continuously enhanced the system with new features to meet the evolving needs of the electricity market. We are committed to continuing this development in close cooperation with the industry in the years to come.
